This past Saturday was a special evening for all of us at Goodwill of Mississippi as we joined the community at the M Braves game to celebrate Disability Awareness Night. It was a night filled with sports, solidarity, and the spirit of giving, as we also hosted a BookWorks book drive, collecting donations to foster childhood literacy in our community.
Celebrating Disability Awareness
Disability Awareness Night is an event that shines a light on the talents and abilities of individuals with disabilities, and promotes inclusivity within the community. For us at Goodwill of Mississippi, participating in this event aligns perfectly with our mission to support and empower individuals through education, training, and employment. Our presence at the game was not just about enjoyment; it was a powerful opportunity to engage with the community and raise awareness about the importance of inclusion.
Support from Our Team and Ambassadors
We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiastic participation of our employees and Goodwill Ambassadors who came out to support the event. Their dedication and commitment to our mission are what makes events like these successful. Their energy and goodwill did not go unnoticed, adding to the festive atmosphere of the evening.
Successful BookWorks Drive
Alongside the game, we conducted a BookWorks book drive, and we were thrilled with the response. Thanks to the generosity of fans and community members, we received numerous donations of new and like-new hardcover children's books. These books will be instrumental in our ongoing efforts to promote literacy among children across Mississippi.
Each book donated during Disability Awareness Night will find its way into the hands and hearts of children throughout our community. Our BookWorks program is designed to ensure that every child has access to quality reading materials, helping to improve literacy rates and foster a lifelong love of reading. The books collected will not only provide educational benefits but will also bring joy and inspiration to many young readers.
Looking Forward
As we look back on a successful evening, we are inspired to continue our work and host more events that promote awareness, community engagement, and support for those we serve. We are excited about the future of our BookWorks program and other initiatives that help us make a difference in the lives of Mississippi residents.
